Whats the difference between the Macintosh Ipod and a windows ipod?

When i was trying to put music on my ipod for the first time (on a window computer) it told me that: in needed to restore and update my ipod to make it a “windows ipod” because it was a “macintosh ipod”. Whatever that means. So, whats the difference?

there is no “windows ipod”, all ipods are made from apple
