What should you use to clean the electronics on a remote for a car?

June 8th, 2009
collie_brawny asked:

I have a remote for a vehicle and it was working fine before, but now it only sometimes work. I’ve already replaced the battery on it, but I think there may be residue build-up in the electronics inside and may need some cleaning up. What solution can I use to help? Does that dust freeze removal spray for computer parts work for this or should a different type of spray be used?

How would I ship electronics to the Philippines without worrying about theft?

June 8th, 2009
j rivers asked:

I used to work at _______ that ships balikbayan boxes to the Philippines. I wouldn’t really trust them when it came to shipping electronics because of theft. Especially when Philippines customs checks the packages. Does anyone know if Fed ex or UPS would be a safe alternative?

Have you had problems with your electronics after moving into an old home with no grounds?

June 7th, 2009
Jod asked:

I’ve always looked at the grounds as protecting people from hot appliances when grounds fault but it seems a lot of people think the grounds are there to protect electronics…

Has anyone had issues with their electronics after moving into an old home with no grounds? I’ve lived in such a home before and never had an issue but I am preparing to move into a new one and am doing some new research.

Thanks!

What is the most difficult contemporary problem in electronics engineering?

June 4th, 2009
Lenny asked:

I’m asking all you professional electrical and electronics engineers out there. What problem (or problems) is/are there in your field that no one has solved, or even approached?

To give you an idea of my level of technical understanding, I’m a third-year electrical engineering undergraduate student at the Clark engineering school.

How to test an electronics enclosure to determine if water is condensing inside?

May 27th, 2009
QDK asked:

We have a custom enclosure that houses electronics. We have a humidity sensor installed and can read that via wireless. We want to know if air trapped inside the housing will condense under any circumstances. How do we test for this? We have put the housing into a freezer and then brought it out and read the sensor. Are there other tests that we can do?
